Rina Altaras - Voice

I started to play the piano at the age of 11 as the student of Valentine Mazlum. An exceptional piano teacher trained at Ecole Normale de Musique, Paris. Nadia Boulanger, Lazare Lévi, Alfred Cortot were among her instructors. Followingly I studied with Gregor Camenzind at the Conservatory of Fribourg, Switzerland. My involvement in the youth
choir of Fribourg, conducted by Andre Ducret, introduced me to the world of vocal performance.

As I delved deeper into singing, it became my primary focus, alongside continuing piano studies at the Conservatory of Fribourg. Over time, I've had the privilege of guiding young talents through voice admission exams and nurturing children's musical abilities, particularly in choirs, by refining their aural skills.

What truly fulfills me is the art of teaching, adapting my methods to each learner's needs, and unlocking their potential. With a background in educational psychology and biochemistry as well, I'm particularly fascinated by the intersection of music and cognition, exploring its impact on both children's development and the well-being of the elderly. Currently, I am writing my dissertation in musicology about the viola da gamba master Jean de Sainte-Colombe by analyzing his music within the historical and cultural context of the late 17th century French Baroque music.

Voice lessons with Rina are available on Thursday.
